The wirehaired dachshund is one of the best hunting/tracking dogs you can get. Better than many blood hounds. Some say they are the absolute best for tracking deer, but that is obviously up for debate.

There is a guy in my state that has 2, and when people can't track their deer, he brings them out there for free. He just wants his dogs to have fun, and they love working. People normally pay him in free deer meat or whatever.

It's actually my go to example when people call small dogs useless.
